State govt declared holiday on Maharaja Bir Bikramís birthday from next year (11/7/2019)
king Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya on 19th August has been notified as an official holiday from next year-that is the year 2020. King Bikram (1908-1947) who had ruled the state from 1923 to May 17 1947 had decided to merge the then princely Tripura with the Indian union by issuing a royal edict on April 28 1947 , appointing Barrister Girija Shankar Guha as his domain's representative in the constituent assembly. He has already been honoured with the naming of the Agartala airport after him and the befitting second honour is going to be notification of his birth anniversary as official holiday. This was made clear by a notification issued today by an official of the department of General Administration (SA) Department of the state government on behalf of the governor. According to the notification there will be altogether 23 government holidays including the birth day of Maharaja Bir Bikram, on 19th August.
