Manik puts cold water to plans of Jiten (3/9/2019)
Once again Manik Sarkar has poured cold water to the plans of Jiten Choudhury. First he prevented him from becoming the state secretary and put his subordinate Gautam Das to this post. Now that Jiten Choudhury had almost finalised the CPI(M) – Congress alliance after holding a meeting with Maharaja Pradyut the Manik – Gautam duo is standing in the way. So much so Jiten has been left red faced as he had to deny any political deliberations taking place in his meeting with the PCC president. Manik Sarkar has confirmed that the CPI(M) hadn’t formed an alliance of any kind with the Congress. “There is no question of leaving space for anyone. We don’t have any seat sharing understanding with the Congress in Tripura. All I would like to confirm is that we are contesting from both the seats. As far as Congress party is concern, I will not be able to comment on them.” “There are some seat sharing arrangements in West Bengal with Congress but in Tripura we are fielding our candidates in both the Lok Sabha seats,” he added.Presently, both the Tripura East and Tripura West are represented by CPI (M)’s Jitendra Choudhury and Sankar Prasad Datta respectively.“This time state party unit has decided to field sitting MPs from Tripura East and Tripura West. There will be no change in the candidate,” Melarmath sources said. Their names will be announced despite stiff opposition from top comrades and general cadres who are for an alliance. In another development, Amid the ongoing seat-sharing talks between the CPI(M) and the Congress in West Bengal, the Left Front Friday announced candidates for Raiganj and Murshidabad Lok Sabha seats.Mohammed Salim and Badaruddoza Khan would contest from Raiganj and Murshidabad Lok Sabha seats, respectively, Chairman of CPI(M)-led Left Front, Biman Bose, said."We have decided that we won't field candidates in the four Lok Sabha seats won by the Congress last time," he added.
