Biplab flags off first pineapple consignment for Dubai (6/3/2018) 
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today flagged off the first commercial consignment of Tripura's 'Queen' variety pineapples to Dubai through Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).The maiden consignment of one metric ton of pineapple procured from Bilashcherra village of Kamalpur in Dhalai district has been formally begun it's journey from Nagicherra orchard of Agartala in presence of chief minister and agriculture minister Pranajit Singharoy.According to plan, every week one ton of full grown pineapple at least 800 gm each would be exported to Dubai. The next consignment is scheduled for departure on June 6 next. The Tripura government has appointed Spicejet cargo for carrying the pineapple to Middle East Destinations within 24 hrs and Kolkata based company is catering as facilitator in the business.Agriculture minister Singha Roy said that the chief minister took the initiative to export the pineapple which is famous in India and neighbouring countries, urged the people to grow more pineapples and jackfruits as both are being produced in Tripura with a rich quality due to the climatic condition and soil.However, chief minister Deb said, "Tripura can earn huge foreign money by cultivating bamboo. If the farmers and others cultivate pineapple, jackfruit and bamboo, their economic condition would see a sea change in the state. The government is committed to make the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double the farmers' income".He said pineapple is the best summer fruit of Tripura could able to export at least 200 MT best grown pineapples in next three months. The farmers who used to sell each full grown pineapple at Rs 5-10, is being procured at Rs 20 per kg (Rs 16 – 22 per piece) and it would be sold at least Rs 80 in the Dubai market."Tripura pineapple is organic by default because of climatic and soil condition, which has high demand in Middle East, Europe and America. The government is targeted monetise the potential and reintroduce Tripura after Queen verity of pineapple," Deb added.
